Arrival in Dunhuang. Overnight at the Camp

Dunhuang Airport - Upon landing, the local guide will greet you at the arrival exit with a welcome sign displaying your name and will transfer you to Crescent Moon Lake, a 40-minute drive covering 20KM.

Crescent Moon Pool - This enchanting lake, named for its crescent moon shape formed by a small spring water pool nestled between two large sand dunes, offers a unique experience. Visitors can slide down the Sounding Sand Dunes to hear the mysterious sounds they produce. Known globally as “the first spring in the desert,” the Crescent Lake is a geological marvel with clear, sweet water that has existed for thousands of years.

Mingsha Shan - Echoing-Sand Mountain - Later, your guide will take you on a camel ride into the desert for camping. Camel riding is a must-try activity in the desert, offering beautiful scenery from the camel’s back during the one-hour ride. Enjoy a barbecue dinner, watch the sunset on the Sounding Sand Dunes, and marvel at the tranquil, starry sky.

Mogao Caves - After lunch, visit the Mogao Grottoes, constructed from the 4th to 14th centuries. Known as the Thousand Buddha Caves, they are one of China’s most significant grottoes and the best-preserved treasure trove of Buddhist art, sutras, murals, and sculptures worldwide.

Dunhuang - Finally, your guide will escort you to your hotel. In the evening, there is an option to attend the ‘Silk Road and Flower Rain’ night show. This classical Chinese dance performance tells a poignant fictional story of a talented fresco artist in the Mogao Caves whose daughter is kidnapped by bandits and sold into slavery as a dancer. The show, with its unique artistic style, brings the magnificent Dunhuang frescoes to life on stage, vividly representing the rich Dunhuang culture and the ancient Silk Road’s prosperity. The performance is a visual spectacle of unmatched beauty, featuring stunning costumes, impressive choreography, and incredible set design. The show starts at 20:00 and lasts for 90 minutes, with ticket prices ranging from CNY 298 to CNY 588 depending on seating. If interested, the guide will reserve tickets and escort you to the venue after dinner.

Dunhuang - After breakfast at the hotel, your guide and driver will transport you to Dunhuang Airport or Dunhuang Train Station, concluding your 3-day tour services.

This private three-day tour from Dunhuang features the best of the city, including Desert Camping, visits to the Mogao Caves, and provision of transportation to and from the airport. Collection and drop-off services are from either your Dunhuang hotel or the airport or train station.
