• Pingyao County - The guide will meet you in your hotel lobby at approximately 09:00 AM. You will then be taken to the renowned Wang Family’s Compound, which is about a 1.5-hour drive away.
• Wang’s Family Compound (Wang Jia Dayuan) - This grand and impressive architectural complex was originally constructed around 250 years ago. Situated in Lingshi County, Shanxi Province, the Wang Family’s Compound is 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Pingyao Ancient City. Built between 1762 and 1811 by the Wang Family descendants, this luxurious residence is notable for its vast size and stunning decorative structures. Resembling a mini walled city, it features over 200 courtyards, each with unique characteristics. The courtyards are adorned with intricately carved wooden doors, window frames, staircases, and stone carvings.
• Zhangbi Ancient Castle - In the afternoon, the tour proceeds to Zhangbi Ancient Fortress, where you will explore the maze-like underground tunnels. Unlike the compounds and ancient city, Zhangbi Ancient Fortress stands out in Shanxi merchants’ culture. To defend against enemy invasions, Chinese ancestors utilized the geographic advantages to construct a 10,000-meter long underground military tunnel system with three levels in the village. Zhangbi Ancient Fortress is a blend of historical relics, tombs, residences, and tunnels, with the labyrinthine underground tunnels being the most fascinating.
• Shuanglin Temple - After lunch, you will be driven back. En route, you will visit Shuanglin Temple, which retains its ancient charm unlike many other temples.

Shuanglin Temple is a serene, tranquil, and beautiful ancient temple. It is one of Pingyao’s three treasures and was added to the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1997. Known as the ‘ancient painted sculptures museum’, this temple contains 2056 vibrant sculptures of Chinese Buddhism, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of artisans from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The sculpture of the One-thousand Hand Kwan-yin is particularly captivating.
