Jinka
Jinka Town - Upon arrival in Jinka, guests are picked up from Jinka airport or any location within Jinka town and transferred to Nassa Pension or a similar hotel. After a brief rest, visitors will explore the village of the Ari tribes, the largest community in the lower Omo Valley. The women, skilled in pottery, wear skirts made from the trunk of a false banana tree known as Enset. After the visit, return to Nassa Pension for an overnight stay.
Drive from Jinka to Turmi
Turmi - In the morning, travel from Jinka to Turmi, a journey of approximately 3 hours. En route, visit the vibrant tribal market in Key Afer village if it’s Thursday, in Alduba village if it’s Tuesday, or in Dimeka village if it’s Saturday.
Turmi - Later in the afternoon, visit the village of the Hamar tribes, known for their friendly nature. The Hamar are famous for a rite of passage called Bull Jumping, which is essential for any Hamar man to become a full adult and eligible for marriage. This ceremony is seasonal and can be witnessed only if it coincides with your visit.
Turmi to Jinka (Visit Nyangatom and Karo tribes)
Turmi - After visiting the Nyangatom tribes, drive for another hour to Karo to explore the village of the Kara tribes. The Kara, one of the smallest tribes in the Omo Valley by population, are renowned for their body painting and decoration, earning them the title of masters of body painting.
Key Afer - Following the visit to the Kara tribes, return to Turmi for a lunch break. Afterward, drive from Turmi to Jinka. Along the way, encounter the stick-walking boys from the Bena tribes. These fully painted boys possess the unique skill of walking on tall stilts to patrol their fields and territories.
Jinka and Departure
Mago National Park - In the morning, drive through Mago National Park to the village of the Mursi tribes. Mursi women are famous for wearing circular disc-like plates in their lower lips, which are considered a sign of beauty. The larger the plate, the more beautiful the Mursi woman is perceived to be!
South Omo Research Centre Museum - After visiting the Mursi tribes, return to Jinka town and visit the South Omo Research Center or Jinka Museum to learn more about all the Omo Valley tribes, especially those not covered on this tour. A 30 to 40-minute documentary about the rites of passage of different tribes is also available.
After the museum visit, guests are transferred to Jinka airport for their flight back to Addis Ababa or to any designated location in Jinka town, marking the end of the trip.
