Next, spend the day in the village-style town of Turmi, home to the Hamer people, for a deeper cultural immersion. Food stops will be tailored to your preferences throughout the day.
Drive from Turmi - Karo / Kara Tribe - Jinka
Omo River - Begin the day with an early morning drive, covering 65 km (approximately 1 hour) to Karo Korcho village, where you will meet the Kara people by the Omo River.
The Kara tribe, with a population between 1,000 and 3,000, resides along the east banks of the Omo River in southern Ethiopia and practices flood retreat cultivation, growing sorghum, maize, and beans.
Experience an authentic interaction with the Kara people, renowned for their intricate body and face paintings. You can have your face or body painted in the Kara style, with the guide explaining the symbolism behind the designs.
Turmi - Afterward, return to Turmi for lunch at your own arrangement. You may also visit a tribal market on market days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday) to explore unique relics and ornaments of these tribes.
Jinka - On the way back to Jinka, you have the option to attend a tribal ceremonial event such as the Hamar Bull Jumping Ceremony or Evangadi Dancing Ceremony, both of which offer a thrilling glimpse into traditional African culture. Finally, enjoy a scenic 130 km (2-hour) drive back to Jinka.
Drive from Jinka – Mago – Jinka – Departure
Mago National Park - Embark on an early morning excursion to the renowned Mago National Park to visit the Mursi village. The Mursi are one of Ethiopia’s exotic ethnic groups, living in low huts made of straw leaves. The women are known for wearing terra cotta on their extensively stretched lower lips and ear lobes. Capture unique photos as your guide facilitates your interactions with them. If time permits, you may also spot or drive past some of the park’s amazing wildlife.
Jinka - Return to Jinka airport for your departure flight back to Addis Ababa, or as per your arrangements. This concludes the tour.
