Mysterious Road (Dokkaebi Road) - 도깨비도로(Mysterious Road)
This intriguing location is known as Jeju Mysterious Road or Dokkaebi Road. It gained its reputation because when a car is placed on this steep road, it appears to roll uphill, seemingly defying gravity. This phenomenon is actually an optical illusion, where the surroundings deceive the eye, making the road seem tilted in the opposite direction. - Eoseungsaengak Trail - Eoseungsaengak (Eoseungsaeng Volcanic Cone), a parasitic volcano of Hallasan Mountain, can be accessed from the Eorimok District of Hallasan Mountain National Park. From Cheonwangsa Temple, take the 1100 Road to Seogwipo. The round trip from Eorimok to the summit of Eoseungsaengak Peak takes about an hour. The hiking trail features log stairs, and the path is lined with wide wooden boards to prevent soil erosion at the summit. At the trail’s start, a sign reads “Eoseungsaengak Hiking Trail”. The name Eoseungsaeng originates from “the place where the king’s horse flies”, and an intriguing legend accompanies it. A central official, falsely accused of treason, was exiled and died here, concerned only for the king and the country. He declared, “I will be reborn as a horse ridden by the king to support him,” before passing away.
