The Wayang Museum is one of Jakarta’s most unique cultural museums, dedicated to the traditional Indonesian art of wayang—a storytelling form using puppets. Situated in the historic Kota Tua Jakarta area, the museum is housed in a beautiful colonial-era building reflecting the city’s Dutch heritage. Inside, visitors can explore an extensive collection of puppets from across Indonesia, including wayang kulit (leather shadow puppets), wayang golek (wooden rod puppets), and puppets from other countries such as China, India, and Cambodia. These puppets traditionally narrate epic tales from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as local folklore.
NB: This place is closed every Monday and on Indonesian National Holidays.
