As I embarked on the Java Overland Tour, I was immediately struck by the vibrant energy of Jakarta. The city, a bustling metropolis, is a fascinating blend of modernity and tradition. Our first stop was Merdeka Square, where the grandeur of the President’s Palace and the National Monument stood as proud symbols of Indonesia’s rich history. Walking through Jakarta Old Town, or Kota Tua, I felt transported back in time. The Dutch colonial architecture whispered stories of a bygone era, and the canals and squares were alive with the echoes of history.

Leaving Jakarta, we journeyed to Bogor, home to the renowned Bogor Botanical Gardens. This lush sanctuary, with its vast collection of over 14,000 plant species, was a testament to Indonesia’s incredible biodiversity. I was particularly fascinated by the rare giant flower plants, which bloom only once every few years. As we traveled eastward, the city of Malang welcomed us with its charming blend of colonial architecture and vibrant markets. The Birds and Flower Market was a sensory delight, with its kaleidoscope of colors and the melodious songs of birds. A visit to Toko Oen, a historic restaurant, offered a taste of nostalgia with its vintage ambiance and delectable treats.

The final leg of our journey took us to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Rising before dawn, we embarked on a jeep expedition to witness the sunrise from Mount Pananjakan. The sight of the sun casting its golden glow over the volcanic peaks was nothing short of magical. Descending to the Sea of Sand, I felt the thrill of adventure as we climbed to the crater of Mount Bromo, the earth rumbling beneath our feet.
