• Jantar Mantar - Jaipur - Jantar Mantar is the largest of the five observatories constructed by Sawai Raja Jai Singh. Situated in Jaipur, its name is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘yantra’ (instrument) and ‘mantra’ (formulae). Built between 1728-34, Jantar Mantar is based on astronomical studies conducted by Sawai Jai Singh and his team worldwide. One of his men brought a manual, a copy of La Hire’s “Tables,” which led Jai Singh to order the construction of the observatories based on this information.
