Pick up your dry clothes bag for the 30-minute ride into Snake River Canyon. At the ramp, meet your guide, receive a safety briefing, and gear up with PFDs and complimentary splash gear.
Then we set off. We operate the smallest commercial rafts on the Snake River. This is the only purely paddle-guided trip in the canyon. Without the burden of heavy oar-frames, the boat is incredibly responsive and swift. You sit right at the water’s edge, fully immersed in the river’s force.
It is up to you and your team to navigate the boat. You will paddle hard to conquer the towering waves of “Big Kahuna” and “Lunch Counter.” This is an exhilarating, wet, full-contact river adventure where high-fives are exchanged after every rapid.
At the take-out point, use our riverside changing rooms to change into dry clothes before the shuttle ride back. Conclude at the office to view trip photos, shop, and tip your guide. (Contact our office to inquire about private boat upgrades).

The “High Adventure” option is perfect for thrill-seekers looking for the most exhilarating and wettest ride in Jackson Hole. Established in 1971, Lewis & Clark offers the smallest guided rafts on the Snake River. Uniquely, they provide a “paddle-only” experience, eliminating the heavy oar-frames used by other tours to offer a lighter, faster, and more agile boat.
In their 14-foot rafts, participants sit right at the waterline, making every wave appear larger and hit with more force. This adventure is a dynamic, team-oriented journey where guests supply the power to conquer famous rapids like Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter. With a maximum of 8 guests, everyone is guaranteed to get splashed. It’s the closest experience to whitewater rafting without actually swimming.
The adventure spans 8 miles of Class II and III whitewater, featuring rapids such as “Lunch Counter” and “Big Kahuna.” The round-trip duration is about 3.5 hours. For a more personalized experience, contact the office to reserve a private boat.
- CHECK-IN: Please arrive at our office (180 Powderhorn Ln) 30 minutes prior to your trip time. We run a strict schedule to catch the river window; late arrivals will miss the bus!
- WHAT TO WEAR: You will get soaked! Quick-drying synthetics are essential (swimsuits, rash guards, polyester). Absolutely no cotton, denim, or hoodies—when wet, they make you cold and heavy. Secure shoes are mandatory (sport sandals with heel straps, old sneakers, or water shoes). No flip-flops, Crocs, or bare feet. Wetsuits and booties are available for rent at our office (highly recommended for cooler days).
- WEATHER POLICY: We raft rain or shine! In the small boat, you are going to get wet regardless of the weather. We provide free splash gear at the launch to help cut the wind/water, but come prepared for the elements.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is an active paddling trip. All guests must be able to paddle and hold on through whitewater. Not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with serious back/heart conditions.
- FOREST SERVICE FEE: Please be prepared to pay the $3 Bridger-Teton National Forest user fee at check-in. This applies to all guests ages 16 and older.
- AVAILABILITY: Inventory changes daily. If you don’t see your time slot, or if this trip sounds too aggressive for your group, please contact Lewis & Clark River Expeditions directly. We can help you book a Private Boat or switch you to our “Classic Whitewater” trip (paddle-assist optional).
