• Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - The House of the Virgin Mary, known as Meryem Ana Evi in Turkish, is believed by many to be where Mary, the mother of Jesus, spent her final years. She is thought to have arrived in Ephesus with St. John and lived there from 37-45 CE until her Assumption (according to Catholic doctrine) or Dormition (according to Orthodox belief). The restored house now functions as a chapel, often bustling with tourists visiting Meryemana en route to or from Ephesus. The site is maintained by the Franciscan order and holds great significance for Muslims, who regard Mary as the mother of one of Islam’s great prophets, İsa Peygamber (Jesus).
• Ancient City of Ephesus - The Ephesus Ruins represent Turkey’s largest open-air museum, dating back to the Greek and Roman periods. Within the Ephesus Ruins, visitors can explore the Senate Building, Ancient Hospital, Domitian Temple, Nike Statue, Hercules Gate, Trajan Fountain, Hadrian Temple, Celsus Library, Grand Theatre of Ephesus, and much more.
• Ephesus Terrace Houses - These Terrace Houses were the residences of the wealthy and upper-class citizens of Ephesus, renowned for their stunning mosaics, frescoes, and wall paintings. It is one of the best-preserved sites in Ephesus, where archaeological work continues.
• The Temple of Artemis - The Temple of Artemis, also known as Artemesium, was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. From a distance, you can see Saint John Basilica and Isa Bey Mosque. It is believed that the Evangelist St. John spent his final years in the Ephesus region and was buried on the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill.
• The Basilica of Saint John - In the early A.D., Evangelist St. John resided in Ephesus to spread Christianity and gather followers of Jesus. According to many sources, he died near Ephesus after returning from exile in Patmos and was buried on the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill by his disciples. Roman Emperor Justinian built one of Christianity’s largest Basilicas in the 4th Century A.D. over the burial site of St. John the Evangelist.
