A Journey to the Navel of the World

As a former professor of European history, my travels often lead me to places where the past whispers through the stones and the air is thick with stories of yore. Delphi, known to the ancients as the ‘Navel of the World,’ was one such place that beckoned me with its rich tapestry of history and myth. My wife and I embarked on the Delphi Day Tour from the port of Itea, a picturesque town that set the stage for our journey into the heart of ancient Greece.

Our driver, a local with an intimate knowledge of the area, navigated the winding roads with ease, offering insights into the landscape that unfolded before us. The drive to Delphi was nothing short of spectacular, with the majestic Mount Parnassus looming in the distance, its peaks shrouded in mist. A Taste of Greek Tradition in Arachova

After immersing ourselves in the history of Delphi, we made our way to the charming village of Arachova. Nestled in the mountains, Arachova offered a delightful contrast to the ancient ruins we had just explored. The village, with its narrow streets and traditional stone houses, exuded a warmth and hospitality that was quintessentially Greek.

We indulged in a traditional Greek meal, savoring the flavors of the region. The local cheese and wine were particularly memorable, a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the area. As we strolled through the village, we couldn’t resist the allure of the small shops, each offering unique souvenirs and local delicacies.

Our day concluded with a leisurely drive back to Itea, the sun setting over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the landscape. The Delphi Day Tour had been a journey through time, a reminder of the enduring legacy of ancient Greece and the timeless beauty of its landscapes.
