Join a small group tour with a dedicated guide and journey to St. Peter’s Square, crafted by the architect Gianlorenzo Bernini for Pope Alexander VII. The guide will share insights about Bernini’s work in the late 1600s, including his design of St. Peter’s Square and the Colonnade for Pope Alexander VII.
After passing through security, you’ll enter the Basilica of St. Peter’s, where your attention will be immediately drawn to Michelangelo’s Pieta, sculpted by the master at a young age. The Basilica, constructed over 120 years, was commissioned to renowned Renaissance and Baroque artists such as Bramante, Sangallo, Michelangelo, Maderno, and Bernini.
Next, you’ll proceed beneath the dome to the main altar, located under the “Baldachin,” which features twisted bronze columns over 90 feet tall. Here, you can admire the stunning mosaics and artworks.
Finally, you’ll ascend to the top of the dome, designed by Michelangelo, offering one of the most breathtaking views of the city of Rome.
