• Pompeii Archaeological Park - The tour begins with a visit to Pompeii as the first stop. With the option of an expert guide (not included/on request), you can explore the archaeological site for 2 hours or independently. The guide will highlight the main attractions that remained preserved after the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. A visit to the Civil Forum is a must, where the daily life of the inhabitants unfolded. Here, you can capture memorable photos with Vesuvius in the background. After the tour, you can explore the new Pompeii, strolling through the streets to Piazza Bartolo Longo to admire the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii (1 hour).
• Paestum - Following the Pompeii visit, you will be taken to Paestum (approximately a 1 hour and 20-minute journey), a city established by the Greeks around 600 BC. Initially named Poseidonia in honor of Poseidon or Neptune, the sea god, it was later occupied by the Lucans from 400 BC and became a Roman colony in 273, adopting the name Paestum.
• Tenuta Vannulo - Before reaching the archaeological site of Paestum, there will be a brief stop at a local dairy to sample ‘buffalo mozzarella’.
• Archaeological Park of Paestum - The city, whose full extent is known, has been partially uncovered through archaeological excavations. Surrounded by impressive walls, it showcases the main buildings along the Roman cardo line: to the north is the temple of Athena from around 500 BC. The central public area dates back to two distinct periods: the Ecclesiasterion of the 5th century BC overlooked the Greek city’s agora, and an important chapel-shaped building. The Roman city featured its forum here, with the comitium (for assembly meetings), the temple of the Capitoline Triad (Capitolium), and the basilica; behind the forum stood the amphitheater and a Hellenistic gymnasium with a large swimming pool. To the south was the expansive urban sanctuary of Hera, with two magnificent temples dedicated to the goddess, the so-called “Basilica,” dating back to around 540 BC, and the one called “of Neptune,” from 460 BC.

First stop: Pompeii. This includes a guided tour of roughly 2 hours through the ancient Pompeii archaeological dig sites, after which you can explore new Pompeii on your own for about 1 hour.
Second stop: Paestum. Before we get to the Paestum archaeological digs, you will enjoy a buffalo mozzarella tasting at Tenuta Vannullo and a brief tour of their local cheese production. Later, you will be directed to the Paestum archaeological sites where you can explore on your own. We’ll end the day by escorting you to your hotel for the night.
