Participants will be welcomed into an environment where leather is still crafted using traditional tools and time-honored methods. Under the guidance of a local leatherworker, they will have the opportunity to create their own mini wallet — a practical and personal item to take home.

Before beginning the hands-on experience, participants will gain insight into the rich history of this ancient craft.

During the Middle Ages, leather was commonly used for everyday items such as coin pouches, work aprons, sword sheaths, and even wallets.

Participants will learn about the tanning process and the unique qualities of leather that make it ideal for everything from soft clothing to sturdy armor.

With the guidance of the instructor, participants will choose their leather, trace and cut the pattern, punch the stitching holes, and gradually bring their wallet to life using hand tools. They will also learn about stitching techniques — including those once used for medieval pouches — and will complete their piece by adding small personal touches.
