Ancient Corinth (Archaia Korinthos) - Ancient Corinth & St. Paul: A Journey Through Time
After the breathtaking cruise through the Corinth Canal with the St. Andreas Glass Bottom Boat, step into history’s footsteps in Ancient Corinth. Once one of the wealthiest and most powerful city-states of the Greek world, Corinth was a vibrant hub of trade and culture. The city holds profound significance for Christianity, as Apostle Paul lived and worked here for 18 months (51-52 AD). Visit the Bema, the public rostrum where he stood before Gallio, and imagine the setting of his “Letters to the Corinthians,” which contain the famous hymn to love. Marvel at the 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo and explore the Roman Agora, where the spirit of antiquity meets the dawn of a new era. A short but powerful encounter with the roots of Western civilization!
Mega Spileo Monastery - From Ancient Glory to Mountain Serenity
The journey begins at the legendary Corinth Canal aboard the St. Andreas Glass Bottom Boat, followed by a deep dive into history at Ancient Corinth, where the spirit of Apostle Paul still lingers among the marble ruins. Leaving the coast behind, ascend the rugged slopes of Mount Helmos to reach the awe-inspiring Mega Spilaio Monastery. Carved into a massive cave precipice, it is the oldest monastery in Greece, housing the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. As the sun sets, arrive at the heroic town of Kalavryta. The day concludes at the cozy Boutique Chalet, a perfect mountain retreat for rest. Enjoy free time wandering through the charming stone-paved streets, breathing in the crisp alpine air, and discovering the local flavors of this historic town. A day of history, spirituality, and relaxation awaits!
The Peaks of Myth & Science
Spileo Limnon - 1.- Explore the Cave of Lakes
Visit one of the most beautiful and rare caves in the world, the Cave of the Lakes. It is unique due to its 13 successive, cascading underground lakes spread across three different levels. This is where Melampus, the world’s first psychiatrist, allegedly cured the daughters of the King of Tiryns from madness. Visitors can explore approximately 500 meters of the developed section via elevated artificial bridges. The experience is unforgettable, as impressive stalactites and stalagmites are reflected in the still waters, creating a mesmerizing sight. The cave also serves as a paleontological site; fossilized human and animal bones, including those of a hippopotamus, were found on the lower floor. The Natural History Museum is housed within the same complex. In addition to the tour office guide, specialized guides are provided inside the cave and museum, and their services are included in the ticket.
Kalavrita Ski Center - Hiking the Peaks of Gods and Heroes
Embark on a mythical ascent from Kalavryta Ski Resort (1,350m). Hike the slopes of Mount Helmos, where every trail honors antiquity; from the Achilles and Hercules lifts to runs named after Muses and Nymphs. Legend says Hercules performed his labors here, while the nearby Styx Waterfalls mark the spot where Thetis dipped Achilles to grant him immortality. The hike leads to the legendary Stiga Peak, offering a divine panorama that stretches from the Corinthian Gulf to the deep blue of the Ionian Sea. After conquering the summit, descend to 1,360m for a refreshing picnic under the shade of fir trees. Savor a variety of local delicacies—artisan cheeses, traditional pies, and robust local wine—immersing yourself in the authentic flavors of the Peloponnese. A true feast for the senses amidst the alpine landscape!
The Magic of Vouraikos & the Coastal Breeze
The Municipal Museum of the Kalavryta Holocaust - Part 1: The Cradle of Freedom & The Sacred Memory
Kalavryta is the heart of Greek identity. Begin at Eleftheria Square, under the historic plane tree where the elders met to ignite the 1821 Revolution. Just steps away, the Agia Lavra Monastery stands as the birthplace of modern Greece, where the banner of freedom was first raised on March 25th. The journey then takes a solemn turn at the Holocaust Museum, housed in the old school. Witness the tragic events of December 13th, 1943. Outside, the Cathedral clock remains eternally frozen at 14:34, the exact moment of the execution. From the heights of national rebirth to the depths of sacrifice, this walk through the town’s stone-paved streets is a profound encounter with the soul of a heroic nation that never stops fighting for liberty.
Mouseio Odontotou - Odontotos Rail Odyssey & the Corinthian Coast
Experience one of the world’s most spectacular railway journeys! Built in 1896, the Odontotos Rack Railway is a feat of engineering, winding through the Vouraikos Geopark, a protected UNESCO site. The train clings to cliffs, passing through hand-carved tunnels and over rushing waterfalls, while many hikers choose to trek the scenic path alongside the tracks all the way to the coast. Upon arrival at Diakopto station, a vehicle picks you up to continue the journey toward the coastal hub of Kiato. Alternatively, if the train is unavailable, head to the emerald, organized beach of Pounta in Trapeza for a refreshing swim and relaxation under the sea breeze. The adventure concludes at Kiato station, where you board the train for a smooth return to Athens, carrying memories of a journey that spanned from alpine myths to the serene blue of the Greek Riviera!
