Hunza is a breathtaking mountain valley situated in the far north of Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, encircled by the magnificent ranges of the Karakoram, Himalayas, Hindu Kush, and Pamir. It is in proximity to the Tianshan and Kunlun mountains and the historic city of Kashgar. Formerly a part of the ancient Silk Route, Hunza is now accessible via the Karakoram Highway (KKH), often referred to as the “eighth wonder of the world,” which links to China through the Khunjerab Pass at an elevation of 4,733 meters.
The most favorable times to visit are in spring, when fruit trees are in full bloom, and in autumn, when the foliage transforms into vibrant hues of yellow and red. The optimal visiting period extends from April to the end of October. Hunza can be reached from Islamabad by a 55-minute flight to Gilgit, followed by a 2-3 hour drive on the KKH. Alternatively, it can be accessed from China via Tashkurgan-Kashgar through the Khunjerab Pass.
