- Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple and Zen Gardens - The Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple is a popular tourist destination. Situated on a 12-acre site, it has been a place of worship since 1920. In 1960, the cave became part of an iron mining site. This temple is located within a vast cave in the limestone outcrops behind Gunung Rapat.
The Kek Lok Tong complex features a central altar with several Buddhist figures and various deities from the Chinese pantheon. A unique aspect of the caves is the stunning garden view that greets visitors inside. The limestone hill consists of light grey to white crystalline Kinta limestone interspersed with thin bands of argillaceous material. Primary iron deposits are still visible within the limestone. The award-winning landscape garden includes a jogging path encircling two lakes and one of the longest reflexology footpaths in Ipoh.
- Kellie’s Castle - Kellie’s Castle in Batu Gajah, Perak, near Ipoh, is a blend of romance, tragedy, and mystery. Young Scotsman William Kellie Smith moved to British Malaya, now Malaysia, where he made and lost his fortune, leaving behind an unfinished mansion that the jungle has reclaimed.
- Concubine Lane - Ipoh Old Town was once so quiet that travelers described it as a laid-back town with cafes, traditional coffees, food, and vibrant street art. The three Concubine Lanes were not well-known until July 2016, when Lonely Planet listed Ipoh as one of the best Asian destinations to visit, leading to increased media coverage of the lanes.
- Ipoh Railway Station - The Ipoh Railway Station was initially intended to be a hospital and was used as such before the 20th century, before being converted into a station. Its original completion year of 1917 was delayed by three years due to a shortage of construction materials and high costs during World War I.
- Ipoh Town Hall and Old Post Office - Ipoh Town Hall is one of three colonial-era buildings in Ipoh designed by renowned British architect Arthur Benison Hubback. The other two, Ipoh High Court and Ipoh Railway Station, are located nearby. Ipoh Railway Station is across the road, and Ipoh High Court is next door.
- Masjid Sultan Idris Shah Ke II Ipoh - The Ipoh State Mosque, officially named Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque, opened in 1968. Named after the then Sultan, this religious landmark opposite the railway station has become a city symbol. The white-washed, two-story mosque with modern Islamic architecture features 44 domes and a 38-meter (125-foot) tall minaret. Tiny mosaic tiles adorn this must-visit attraction in Ipoh, which glistens under the sun.
- Birch Memorial Clock Tower - One of the most significant colonial legacies is the Birch Memorial Clock Tower. Located in front of the Ipoh State Mosque, it officially opened in 1909. The white-washed structure serves as a memorial to James Birch, the first British Resident of Perak.
- Ipoh Kallumalai Murugan Temple - This is one of the most beautiful temples to visit in Ipoh. Outside of prayer times, the area becomes quiet and deserted, offering a serene spot for reflection and enjoying the views. While the temple itself may not stand out, its setting against the cliffs is a highlight. The Guan Yin Dan Ba Xian Tong Buddhist Cave Temple, located inside a cave, is next door. While some may not consider these temples must-visit attractions in Ipoh, photography enthusiasts will appreciate the scenery.
- Ipoh Heritage Walk - Ipoh is named after the Ipoh tree, known for being the source of blowpipe poison. When the Portuguese attacked Malacca in 1511, the native weapon they feared most was the blowpipe with its poisoned darts. It was reported that every Portuguese soldier hit by darts died, except one.
- Royal Perak Golf Club - One of the oldest clubs in Malaysia, the Royal Ipoh Club has a history dating back to before 1895. Centrally located in Ipoh amidst the lush green playing fields of the Ipoh Padang, it began as a laundry house for the Japanese Imperial Army officers living at the nearby St. Michael’s Institution. Over the years, the Royal Ipoh Club has evolved into one of the oldest elite clubs in Ipoh.
- Mikasa Photo Studio | Japanese Spy - The Kinta River divides the historic center of Ipoh into two parts: Old Town and New Town. Ipoh’s history begins with the Old Town during the tin rush. “During the era of the Malay Rajas, Ipoh was just a small village. When the British colonial government ruled Perak around 1877, Ipoh transformed into a town, attracting many Chinese immigrants from Penang seeking their fortune.”
