Čičmany - The distinctive feature of the log houses in Čičmany is their exteriors adorned with geometric patterns. Traditionally, women were the creators of these designs, initially decorating only the corners of houses with mud, and later with lime. This painting served to protect the logs from sun damage. Geometric patterns were also used in embroidery on clothing, pictures, and tablecloths. The Reserve includes 136 houses.
Orava Castle - The journey takes about two hours, passing two significant castles in western Slovakia: Trenčin and Beckov. A stop will be made to visit one of Slovakia’s most beautiful castles: Oravský hrad, the filming location for one of the earliest vampire movies, Nosferatu (1922). Perched on a rock above the Orava River in the village of Oravský Podzámok, the castle resembles an “eagle’s nest” and is a major tourist attraction in Slovakia. It was constructed on the site of an older wooden hillfort after the Tartar invasion in 1241. Over the centuries, this small fortress evolved into a vast castle complex with 154 rooms.
Bojnice Castle and Banská Štiavnica, UNESCO Heritage Site
SNM - Bojnice Castle Museum - A visit to one of Slovakia’s most enchanting castles, Bojnice Castle, is planned. National Geographic Travel has ranked this castle among the top 10 European castles.
Bojnice Castle, with its fairytale appearance, is one of the most visited and beautiful castles in Slovakia and Europe. It was owned by several noble families, with the Pálfi family being the last. The tour includes a visit to a stalactite cave beneath the castle, connected to a 26-meter deep castle well. In front of the castle gates stands a more than 700-year-old tree, known as King’s Matej linden of Bojnice, with a perimeter of 12 meters. Under this tree, King Matej Corvinus held grand feasts and gatherings.
Banská Štiavnica - A one-hour drive leads to Banská Štiavnica, a UNESCO Heritage site and a renowned former medieval mining town in Slovakia.
The town was designated a UNESCO heritage site in December 1993. Until 1919, it was home to the world’s first technology-oriented university, the first mining university. Banská Štiavnica became a hub for scientific and technological advancement in Europe.
This town is one of Slovakia’s most beautiful and historically significant, drawing artists and romantics with its ancient mining roads, charming cafés, and numerous restaurants.
A tour of this picturesque town will be followed by a short break and lunch.
After the tour, the journey back to Bratislava will pass by Nitra Castle, one of Slovakia’s oldest, with an expected arrival in Bratislava around 6 PM.
