Travel approximately 2 hours to Landeyjahöfn, where the ferry to the Westman Islands awaits. The 45-minute ferry ride reveals stunning views of the islands’ distinctive cliffs and landscapes.
Spend around 5 hours on Heimaey, the largest and only inhabited island of the archipelago, formed by underwater volcanic eruptions. Discover the islands’ volcanic history at the Eldheimar Museum. Visit Stórhöfi, Europe’s windiest location, offering breathtaking views of the Westman Islands. Here, encounter friendly sheep and, during their summer stay, observe playful puffins (typically from late May to late August).
Additionally, admire the Elephant Rock and the remnants of the original settlers’ farmhouse. Conclude the adventure by taking the ferry back and driving to Reykjavik, a journey of about 3 hours.
- It takes approximately 3 hours to get to the islands and then 3 hours to come back from the islands, so that leaves about 6 hours on the islands.
- We will make stops so you can get food and drinks throughout the day. There is also a café on the ferry to the islands and back.
