With a depth of 97 meters, it has no inlets or outlets, relying solely on groundwater. According to local folklore, a serpent-like creature resides beneath its dark waters. As you enjoy the breathtaking views, your guide will share captivating tales of the lake monster, setting the tone for an exhilarating adventure!
• Seltún Geothermal Area - Next, we explore the otherworldly Seltún geothermal area in Krýsuvík, where the landscape resembles an alien planet. The terrain is painted in vibrant reds, yellows, and greys, shaped by intense geothermal activity. As we stroll along the winding wooden paths, we’ll encounter bubbling mud pools, steaming vents, and the distinctive smell of sulfur, all highlighting the raw power of Iceland’s Earth.
• Grænavatn - A short drive takes us to Grænavatn, or the “Green Lake,” a stunning volcanic crater lake known for its vivid emerald color. This striking hue is due to a high concentration of sulfur and minerals, creating a mesmerizing contrast against the rugged surroundings.

• Nátthagi Valley - Our next stop is Nátthagi, a beautiful valley near the Fagradalsfjall volcano. Renowned for its 2021 eruption after 6,000 years of dormancy, the volcano released fiery lava for six months, creating one of Iceland’s most remarkable eruptions. Today, you’ll explore the expansive lava field, with dramatic rock formations and frozen lava ridges. A brief 20-minute hike leads us to the Nátthagi viewpoint, offering a stunning view of this volcanic marvel!

(NOTE: The hike to the lava field is approximately 20 minutes, and participants should be comfortable on uneven paths and rugged terrain.)

• Grindavik - Upon arriving in Grindavík, we enter a town forever transformed by nature’s forces. Once a bustling fishing hub, it was reshaped by powerful volcanic eruptions in late 2023, leading to an evacuation and leaving it eerily empty. Although now safe and reopened, the scars remain—abandoned homes frozen in time and cracked roads from seismic activity. This rare glimpse into Iceland’s dynamic geology showcases the raw power of nature at work.
• Svartsengi - Our next destination is the newly formed Sundhnúkagígar / Svartsengi lava field, a stunning testament to Iceland’s ever-evolving landscape. Located just outside Grindavík, this raw and rugged terrain emerged from some of the country’s most recent volcanic eruptions. These events, as recent as 2024, captivated the world.
  Here, you’ll step onto a brand-new section of Earth, where steam still rises from the cooling lava, offering an up-close look at nature’s fiery creativity in action.
