Keflavik - Upon your afternoon arrival, please locate the Airport Direct kiosk for check-in and directions to board the bus to your hotel. The journey to Reykjavik city takes approximately 45 minutes, and depending on your hotel’s position on the drop-off list, it may take an additional 15-20 minutes to reach your destination.
Silver Circle | West Iceland Tour | Lava Cave | Overnight in Reykjavík
Borgarnes - The tour begins with a convenient pickup from your Reykjavik accommodation, followed by a scenic drive past Mount Esja and through a tunnel under Hvalfjordur into West Iceland. A brief stop in Borgarnes allows for refreshments and the chance to admire the stunning views across Borgarfjordur.
Deildartunguhver Thermal Spring - Next, visit Deildartunguhver, renowned as Europe’s most powerful hot spring, producing over 180 liters of boiling water per second. Experience the raw power of nature as you safely walk on boardwalks through steam clouds around the bubbling springs or view them from the platform.
Snorralaug - Snorralaug (Snorri’s Pool) is a smaller hot spring located in Reykholt, where locals have bathed since the 12th century. Mentioned in medieval writings by Snorri Sturluson, an Icelandic poet and chieftain, this pool is now a protected archaeological site. Capture photos of the beautiful 19th-century timber church here, and peek inside to see a medieval smithy cistern through a viewing glass.
Hraunfossar - Witness the magnificent Hraunfossar, a series of waterfalls formed by rivers flowing across the Hallmundarhraun lava field, created a millennium ago by a volcanic eruption under the Langjokull glacier. Hraunfossar, meaning “Lava Waterfalls,” now features clear glacial meltwater cascading into the Hvita (White) river, offering one of Iceland’s most breathtaking views.
Barnafoss - A short walk through various viewing points leads to Barnafoss, or “the waterfall of the children,” with a poignant story. A natural stone bridge once spanned these powerful falls, but after two children tragically fell to their deaths, their grieving mother had the bridge destroyed to prevent further accidents.
Husafell - Conclude the tour in the woodland oasis of Husafell, a magical place to unwind with birch woodlands, waterfalls, rugged lava fields, crystal-clear springs, and medieval remains. Husafell, home to many artists, features works by modern sculptor Pall Gudmundsson, including rock harps and the legendary Husafell Stone, used to test strength in local and international competitions.
South Coast tour + Glacier hike | Overnight in Vik or the surrounding
Seljalandsfoss - The tour’s first highlight is the “hidden” waterfall at Gljufrabui, concealed in a cave and often missed by visitors, but we’ll guide you to it! Nearby, the 60-meter-high Seljalandsfoss waterfall plunges off the Eyjafjallajokull volcano into a deep pool. A path allows you to walk around the waterfall, but check with our guide first as it can be slippery. This location is popular, having appeared in music videos, TV shows, and films.
Skogafoss - Next, visit Skogafoss, one of the world’s most recognizable waterfalls, featured in “Game of Thrones” and other productions. From a height of 60 meters, the waters create sheets of spray and rainbows on sunny days. Climb the stairs for a high view of the falls. A café and restrooms are available for snacks or coffee.
Reynisfjara Beach - The final stop on the South Coast’s first day is the famous black sand beach at Reynisfjara, once named by National Geographic as a Top Ten non-tropical beach. The dark sands are pounded by Atlantic waves, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks looming offshore, offering a supernatural photo opportunity. Stay clear of the waves, as they can be unexpectedly fast and strong! Hexagonal basalt columns adorn the cliffs, home to puffins and other seabirds in summer. The stone sea arches of Dyrholaey are visible in the distance.
Glacier Lagoon + Amphibian boat tour | Overnight in Reykjavik
Diamond Beach Jokulsarlon - The highlight of your South Coast adventure is Diamond Beach and the Glacier Lagoon at Jokulsarlon. Diamond Beach is named for the sparkling icebergs sculpted by wind and waves on the black sand. The ice fragments offer fantastic photo opportunities and are perfect for a proposal.
Glacier Lagoon - Nearby is the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, one of Iceland’s “crown jewels.” Here, bright-blue and ghostly-white icebergs break away from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier into a growing meltwater lagoon. The icebergs slowly drift towards the Atlantic Ocean, and you can enjoy a thrilling 45-minute amphibious boat tour among them, possibly spotting seals. Jokulsarlon is a bucket-list location featured in Hollywood movies, offering stunning and ever-changing scenery. After the Glacier Lagoon, return to Reykjavik.
Hofskirkja Church - Hofskirkja, the last church of its kind built in Iceland, dates back to the 19th century. Its turf roof and moss-covered burial mounds blend into the landscape. Rebuilt in the 1950s, it remains a practicing church, though not open to the public, making this a quick photo stop.
Fjadrargljufur Canyon - Fjadrargljufur River Canyon is a breathtaking green gorge about 100 meters deep and nearly two kilometers long. It gained fame from a Justin Bieber music video and is now popular with global visitors. The canyon, formed during a glacial period, features a snaking river left by the retreating ice sheet. Enjoy an hour at this marvelous site.
Vik - The charming village of Vik, Iceland’s southernmost point, has a fairytale feel, overlooked by a pretty church offering panoramic views. Visit this vantage point to see the Reynisdrangar and Dyrholaey from another angle. Vik is unique as an Icelandic seaside village without a harbor, and in summer, Arctic terns and other seabirds nest here.
Golden Circle + Kerid Crater Lake + Blue Lagoon experience | Overnight in Reykjavik
Thingvellir National Park - Begin the day with a scenic drive from Reykjavik towards Mount Esja and into Iceland’s heartland, Thingvellir National Park, a natural wonder. Here, the American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly separate, allowing you to stand on two continents simultaneously. Geologically fascinating, Thingvellir is also culturally and historically significant as the site of the world’s oldest surviving Parliament, established by Vikings in 930 AD. Iceland declared independence from Denmark here in 1944. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it boasts rich cultural history and stunning natural surroundings.
Geysir - After Thingvellir, travel to the world-famous Geysir hot spring. Pass through Laugarvatn village, near a beautiful lake in the geothermally active Haukadalur area, where locals bake rye bread in the ground! Known for its power and beauty, Geysir is synonymous with this natural spectacle. Nearby, Strokkur hot spring erupts up to 30 meters every few minutes. Approach Strokkur with caution, checking the wind direction first! Superheated water streams leave colorful residues. In the Geysir area, enjoy lunch, snacks, or shop for souvenirs at the service station.
Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss, a double drop waterfall with a 30-meter cascade, produces endless spray as over a million gallons of water crash into a narrow canyon each minute. Gullfoss is a natural marvel year-round, with various viewing perspectives offering a full experience of its power. It creates rainbows on sunny days and is stunning when partly frozen in winter. Once nearly converted into a hydroelectric plant, it is now a protected site.
Kerid Crater - The classic Golden Circle tour concludes with a visit to the dramatic red earth Kerid volcanic crater. Three thousand years old and over 50 meters deep, a walk around the crater and lake, with its colorful mossy greens and red earth hues, is a visual highlight. Bjork once performed a concert here.
Blue Lagoon - The tour continues towards Grindavik and the Blue Lagoon, with a scenic drive through the Reykjanes peninsula, featuring vast lava fields, cone volcanoes, and stunning Atlantic Ocean views. Blue Lagoon (admission included)
Prepare for the most relaxing part of your day! Spend the rest of your day in the iconic naturally-heated waters and enjoy the fantastic facilities at the world-famous Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is extremely popular and often sold out, but our tour includes admission tickets, so you can look forward to this unique experience upon booking. After two hours at the Blue Lagoon, return to Reykjavik’s bright lights to reflect on a fantastic day and enjoy the rest of your night in the capital.
