• Seljalandsfoss - The Seljalandsfoss waterfall originates beneath the renowned Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano. This stunning 60-meter waterfall cascades down a majestic cliff, creating a refreshing mist that fosters a unique microclimate. During the summer, visitors can walk through the cave to view the waterfall from a different angle!
• Gljufrabui Waterfalls - For those willing to get their feet wet, a nearby cave reveals another extraordinary waterfall. Gljufrabui Waterfall, partially concealed by a rock wall, is often referred to as the hidden gem of Iceland’s south coast. Many tours overlook it, but that’s their loss. Visitors can spend time admiring the rushing cascade and the picturesque moss-covered rocks. Along the way, discussions about the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, whose 2010 eruption temporarily halted flights worldwide, will be held.
• Skogafoss - This part of the journey offers views of other beautiful waterfalls from the car window, though they may not be as spectacular as the ones visited. Soon, Skogafoss, another 60-meter high waterfall, will be reached. Fans of “Game of Thrones” or “Vikings” may recognize it. Climbing approximately 600 steps to the top leads to the start of the iconic Landmannalaugar trek, an 80-kilometer route listed among National Geographic’s “top 20 dream trails.” Experiences from this trek, completed multiple times, will be shared.
• Solheimajokull Glacier - The next stop is the breathtaking Sólheimajökull glacier, meaning “Sun’s Home Glacier.” After a brief 15-minute walk, visitors will stand at the base of this magnificent ice giant. This is the time to gear up with crampons, helmets, harnesses, ice axes, and training on their use. Fully equipped, participants will spend about 2.5 hours trekking across the glacier’s surface, marveling at the deep crevasses, towering ice formations, and blue ice tunnels. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not to be missed! Note: The glacier is retreating due to climate change, so this may be one of the last chances to explore it in its full glory.
• Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara is the renowned black sand beach that will leave visitors in awe. The colossal basalt rock formations, constantly battered by high ocean waves, are breathtaking. According to Icelandic folklore, the basalt columns are trolls turned to stone by the sun. Guides will share fascinating stories about Icelandic trolls and elves. This location also served as a filming site for iconic “Game of Thrones” scenes.
• Vik - Vik is the southernmost point on Iceland’s mainland. This former fishing village has a population of only 400. There will be time to shop for souvenirs or sample local delicacies. From Vik, there is a 2-hour drive back to Reykjavik, providing an opportunity to relax after a day of adventures and use onboard Wi-Fi.
