- Huzhou Nanxun Old Town - The journey begins at 8:00 am from the hotel lobby in Shanghai. After a two-hour drive, you will arrive at the historic Nanxun ancient town, which is divided into three distinct areas. The first area is the Nanxun tourist attractions enrichment zone, featuring Zhang Shiming’s former residence and Liu’s ladder. The second area is the central scenic spot, which includes Xiaolian Zhuang, Jiaotong, Wenyuan, and other attractions. The third area is the Northeast block, where Zhang Jingjiang’s former residence and Baijianlou are the main highlights, located east of Dongjie Street.
Additionally, many private residences here showcase a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, which is a notable feature of Nanxun architecture. These structures not only reflect the prosperity of the Nanxun people but also their forward-thinking mindset. For instance, Xiaolin Huang, one of the four elephants in Nanxun, Liu Yong’s private gardens; Zhang’s old house, which is Zhang Jingjiang’s cousin Zhang Shiming’s private residence; Liu’s ladder, also known as the red house, is Liu Yong’s third son Liu Anpan’s private forest, among others. The hundred buildings are the most significant highlights of Nanxun. This architectural complex stretches along the river for nearly 400 meters, showcasing both Ming and Qing Dynasty styles. These are typical residential buildings. The hundred buildings along the river were constructed by Dong Ren of Nanxun, a Shangshu of the Ministry of Rites during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The entire complex is intricately designed, featuring three-fold horsehead walls and Pipa gables. There are eaves in front of the houses, providing shade in summer and shelter from rain. Finally, return to your hotel in Shanghai.
