- Savernake Forest - Before reaching the market town of Marlborough, we travel through the ancient royal forest of Savernake.
- Marlborough - Marlborough, a market town, boasts the widest street in England and showcases splendid Georgian architecture. It is home to Marlborough College, attended by some of England’s notable figures. Look for the ancient mound in the school grounds, rumored to be Merlin the Magician’s burial site and the resting place of the round table.
- Ridgeway Path National Trail - We pause briefly on the Ridgeway Path to explore ancient Bronze Age burial mounds and “The Sanctuary,” part of the impressive Avebury stone circle landscape.
- Avebury Henge and Stone Circles - Here, we will stroll among the stones of Avebury, as ancient as Stonehenge, to experience the world’s largest prehistoric stone circle.
- Cherhill White Horse and Monument - Overlooking Cherhill is the striking Lansdowne Monument and the White Horse, a chalk figure etched into the hillside. Nearby lie the remnants of an ancient Iron Age fortress.
- Sandy Lane - Off the beaten path, we admire splendid thatched cottages before heading to our first official stop.
- Lacock - This exceptionally well-preserved medieval village features Lacock Abbey, the residence of pioneering photographer William Henry Fox Talbot. We will explore the town to see the old tithe barn, the old gaol, the church, the old workhouse, and some historic pubs.
- Box Tunnel - Box Tunnel, constructed by the esteemed Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was part of his project to connect London to Bristol.
- Bath - We will enjoy a panoramic tour of Bath, taking in all the major sites, including the Royal Crescent, the Circus, Queen’s Square, the Abbey, and Pulteney Bridge, before visiting the Roman Baths.
- The Roman Baths - The audio guide will transport you back 2,000 years through the restored Roman Baths, where you can sample the spring water yourself.
- Beckford’s Tower - On the return journey to London, we pass by Beckford’s Tower, built by a former Lord Mayor of London 200 years ago.
