The first stop is the Citadel, where Vietnam’s last king, Bao Dai, abdicated on August 30th, 1945. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is protected by an ancient moat and thick stone walls. The expansive Citadel includes the Imperial City, Forbidden Purple City, and the Royal Theatre, so prepare for a morning of exploration!

Venturing off the beaten path, you’ll visit locals crafting Vietnam’s renowned conical hats.
Next, explore the tomb of King Tu Duc, the most admired and impressive of the royal mausoleums. It features courtyards, pavilions, temples, and chambers. Your guide will share its intriguing history and insights into the king’s luxurious life, from his 104 wives to the tragic fate of the 200 burial servants!
- Perfume River - Enjoy a Cruise Down Perfume River!
Before lunch, visit Bunker Hill, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Perfume River. This area was a strategic military vantage point with secret observation posts. Many bunkers remain, providing an opportunity for close inspection.
- Thien Mu Pagoda - After lunch, recharge and head to the next destination: Tiger Arena. This ancient colosseum hosted battles between tigers and elephants for royal entertainment.
