Shanghai People’s Square is centrally located in Shanghai, marking the division between East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. It is a vibrant area for exploration.
Before 1949, the site of Shanghai People’s Square and the People’s Park was a renowned horse racetrack, established in 1861 and known as the ‘No.1 Racetrack in the Far East’. Visitors can still see the remnants of the former main building in the northeast part of People’s Square.
The tour will include many scenic spots around People’s Square, such as the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. The group will also visit the Shanghai Museum. -
Shanghai Grand Theater - The group will admire the facade of the Shanghai Grand Theater.
The Shanghai Grand Theater boasts a unique design and beautiful shape, blending Western and Chinese architectural styles seamlessly. The white arched vault complements the glass curtain walls, resembling a crystal palace.
Next, the group will visit Madame Tussauds Shanghai, where they can get up close with their favorite celebrities.
- Madame Tussauds Shanghai - Opened in 2006, Madame Tussauds Shanghai is the sixth of its kind worldwide. Located on the tenth floor of the New World Building on West Nanjing Road, it offers the public a chance to meet their favorite celebrities. Visitors can take photos onstage with Michael Jackson and enjoy a special experience area where they can participate in wax-making, creating a unique fingerprint of their own.
-
Yuyuan Old Street - Historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, Shanghai Old Street is a historic business street featuring tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s first bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a glimpse into the city’s traditional culture and the everyday life of its residents.
The tour will then proceed to Yu Garden, the largest of Shanghai’s ancient gardens. -
Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - The group will explore Yu Garden, initially built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, Minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan began the project after failing an imperial exam, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan delayed construction until 1577.
Despite its small size, Yu Garden contains all the elements of a classical Chinese garden, including pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with unique characteristics. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own style. - Shanghai Temple Of the Town God (Chenghuang Miao) - The Old Town God Temple of Shanghai, with its rich history, attracts numerous tourists worldwide. Visitors can pray, watch folk performances, participate in cockfighting, special calligraphy, and other acrobatic performances. The temple is renowned for its local snacks, making it a culinary paradise with a variety of restaurants lining the streets.
At noon, the group will enjoy a local specialty lunch, with vegetarian options available.
After lunch, the group will stroll along the Bund and take a cruise to enjoy the scenery along the Huangpu River.
- Huangpu River - The Huangpu River separates two iconic yet distinct Shanghai sights: the modern skyscrapers of the Pudong area and 26 buildings of various architectural styles on the west side. The group will embark on a one-hour cruise along the Huangpu River to admire the beautiful scenery on both sides, including the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jin Mao Tower.
- The Bund - The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases Shanghai’s charm as a bustling metropolis with a rich history and a promising future, making it a must-see attraction. The group will see 26 buildings of various architectural styles at the Bund, such as the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. They will also see the Bund City Sculptures, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Huangpu Park, and Waibaidu Bridge, and appreciate the skyscrapers across the Huangpu River.
The tour will then proceed to Pudong New Area, where the group will walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge and visit the Shanghai Tower.
-
Pudong New Area - As a vibrant district, Pudong offers visitors modern attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, all featuring the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion.
The group will walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers. - Shanghai Tower - The new landmark of Shanghai, the tallest building in the city, stands at 632 meters. The 118th floor houses the world’s highest indoor observation deck, known as the ‘Top of Shanghai Observatory’. Visitors are encouraged to visit the exhibition hall on floor B1 first, then take the express elevator to the 118th floor in just 55 seconds, reaching speeds of 18 meters per second. Here, they can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Shanghai and admire the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River from the 119th floor.
Afterwards, the group will return to the hotel using public transportation, wrapping up their memories and saying goodbye at the hotel.
