The Huanghuacheng Great Wall was once among the most formidable sections in Beijing. Constructed by General Cai during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), its completion took many years. Some deceitful officials criticized the expense of its construction, angering the emperor, who subsequently ordered General Cai’s execution.
Years later, the emperor instructed his ministers to inspect the wall and realized he had wronged General Cai. The wall was exceptionally strong. The emperor then had craftsmen carve the Chinese characters “Jin Tang” into the wall, meaning “Gold Soup” - symbolizing strength and resilience. Consequently, the Huanghuacheng Great Wall is often referred to as the “Jintang Great Wall,” and the adjacent lake is known as Jintang Lake.
