• Hualien City - Sakur Trail: Historical records and oral traditions reveal that the area was once rich with Formosan alder trees, known locally as “Formosan alder feet.” The Amis tribe referred to it as “Sakur.” During the Japanese colonial period, the area was renamed Sakura, using Japanese kanji characters. In 2007, the local community officially named it the “Sakiraya Tribe,” and the tribe chose the name “Sakur.” The “Sakur Trail” is a suburban path built with natural ecological methods, suitable for all ages. It spans approximately 1.35 kilometers, taking about 40 to 60 minutes to walk. At the trailhead, visitors can choose between the left or right path based on their stamina. The right path is recommended for its ease, with fewer steep climbs and stairs.

• Xiulin - Jiamin Village: This tribal community of the Taroko people is known for their straightforward and optimistic nature. They rely on farming and hunting, living harmoniously with the mountains, and are naturally robust. The village’s unique geography offers stunning green mountains and clear waters. Villagers enjoy seasonal hunting, gathering, and socializing. They preserve traditional crafts like weaving, bamboo, rattan, wood, and stone carving, and create cultural items such as backpacks and chairs. The main agricultural product is mountain ferns.

• Xiulin - Fu-shih Village: Located in the northern part of Sioulin Township, Fu-shih Village borders the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Da-yu Mountain Range to the west. It includes Taroko National Park, making it the largest village in the township. The Taroko tribe residents are known for their simple and sincere lifestyle. The natural wonders within Taroko National Park are renowned both locally and internationally, offering breathtaking scenery. Fu-shih Elementary School, founded in 1922 as ‘Wu-sei-an Educational Institute,’ was renamed ‘Fu-shih National School’ after Taiwan’s liberation in 1945.

• Taroko National Park - Taroko National Park, located in eastern Taiwan, spans over 92,000 hectares, featuring high mountains and deep gorges. Many peaks rise above 3,000 meters, and the scenic Liwu River is visible from the Central Cross-Island Highway. The park’s diverse peaks, waterfalls, flora, fauna, and indigenous Taroko people create a rich natural ecosystem. A roughly 3-hour tour includes photographing the eastern entrance Arch Gate, visiting the visitor center, a scenic drive through 20 kilometers of stunning canyon views, and exploring the Tianxiang area, including Xiangde Temple. Due to the April 2024 earthquake, some highway sections are under repair, with vehicle entry allowed only during specific times.

• Xincheng - Hualien is home to the Xincheng Catholic Church, a healing exotic structure. Originally a solemn Shinto shrine during Japanese occupation, it later became a Catholic church. Resembling a forest treehouse, it is nicknamed the Taiwanese Noah’s Ark, attracting visitors with its picturesque beauty. Inside, the church offers a sacred and aesthetic atmosphere, welcoming free tours. Though not large, it is well-organized for sightseeing and photography.

• Chishingtan Scenic Area - Chishingtan Beach is a beautiful part of the Hualien coastline, a crescent bay north of Hualien City. The pebbly beach faces the Pacific and is bordered by green mountains. “Chishingtan” means Seven Stars Lake, referring to an area near Hualien Airport that once had seven small lakes, filled in by the Japanese during their occupation. Visitors can enjoy a walk by the water’s edge and gaze out at the Pacific.
