Samaria Gorge, the longest and arguably the most famous gorge in Europe, is situated 4,000 feet above sea level. This adventure from Rethymno promises a day of marveling at natural wonders, including the White Mountains and millennia-old forests.
The full-day (12-hour) excursion to Samaria Gorge starts with a 6:00 a.m. pick-up from Rethymno, followed by a drive to Omalos in the heart of the White Mountains, where breakfast is served before the hike.
The trek involves navigating rocks and stones, following a river, and passing fresh-water springs. Along the route, enjoy views of Crete’s most prominent mountain range and spot wild mountain goats. A professional mountain guide, fluent in English, German, and French, will accompany you.
- Agia Roumeli - At the trek’s conclusion, visit the village of Agia Roumeli, home to numerous taverns, bars, and shops. Enjoy free time for a swim or lunch. A meeting point will be set to collect ferry tickets from your guide.
- Sfakia - In the late afternoon, board a boat from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia, where a bus will be ready to take you back to the starting point around 7:30 p.m.
- Omalos Plateau - Enjoy breakfast here before commencing the hike.

Embark on an exhilarating trek through one of Europe’s longest and most renowned gorges. This adventure from Panormo or Lavris offers breathtaking views of natural wonders, including the White Mountains and ancient forests.
A knowledgeable escort will provide all the essential information about the hike and supply tickets for both the entrance and ferry. Entrance fee: €5 (children up to 15 years old are free). Ferry fee: €13 (Sougia ferry). These fees are payable to the guide upon arrival.
After breakfast, begin the journey through the Samaria Gorge. Upon completing the trek, explore the village of Agia Roumeli, where numerous taverns, bars, and shops await. Enjoy some leisure time for a swim or lunch.
In the late afternoon, board a boat from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia, where a bus will be ready to transport you back to the starting point.

- Pickup begins up to 60 minutes before tour starts and is done from central meeting points near the hotels, only in the areas of Panormo, Scaleta, Adele, Platanias, Missiria, Rethymno town, Atsipopoulo, Kavros Gerani and Georgioupoli
- The 5 to 6-hour trek is challenging. You must have good trekking shoes or at least a sturdy pair of trainers
