The trail concludes at the gorge’s exit in the seaside village of Agia Roumeli, where a refreshing swim in the pristine waters of the South Cretan Sea awaits.
Agia Roumeli is a charming seaside village accessible only by boat or by hiking the Samaria Gorge trail. There are no roads leading out, and the sole ferry departs daily at 17:30 to Sougia or Sfakia ports.
The guide will assist in securing ferry tickets and provide information on returning to your car and hotel after the ferry ride, or help arrange accommodation in Agia Roumeli.

The Samaria Gorge trail offers a distinctive hiking experience amidst the pristine nature of Crete. This extensive rocky trail winds through breathtaking rock formations and crosses a river before reaching the sea. As the longest gorge in Greece, spanning 16 kilometers (10 miles), it is also among the most picturesque gorges in Crete. Designated as a National Park of Greece since 1962, it is a protected area and recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve.
- You will meet your guide at the meeting/starting point by the entrance of the gorge. You can use your rental car or the early morning public bus from Chania Public Bus Station to get there (about 45min. trip). After the end of the tour, everybody travels back independently. Your guide will help you issue the ferry tickets and will give you all the info about how you will travel back to the entrance of the gorge to get your car, or to your hotel by using public bus.
