Spanning 10,000 hectares in the northeastern part of Ninh Binh province, Trang An encompasses three distinct components within a unified buffer zone: the Trang An Ecological Area, the Tam Coc-Bich Dong River Landscape, and the Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel.
The Trang An Eco-Tourism Complex is located inland on the coastal plain within the significantly eroded limestone block of Hoa Lu, which is part of the Truong Yen – Bich Dong mountain range. This range consists of limestone karst peaks with high fragmentation, forming low mountains separated by valley floors made up of sedimentary rock, predominantly shales.
