Hanoi Opera House - At 7:30 am, the tour guide and vehicle will collect guests from hotels around Hanoi Old Quarter & Hanoi Opera House. Alternatively, pickup can be arranged from the airport, proceeding directly to Ninh Binh for the tour. The journey to Trang An grottoes, known as Halong Bay on land, takes 2.5 hours. Enjoy the picturesque rural landscapes along the way. Note that the Hanoi Opera House serves as a meeting point for those not requiring hotel pickup or whose hotels are outside the Old Quarter.
Trang An Landscape Complex - Arrive at Trang An by 10:30 and embark on a boat trip to explore the area. This eco-tourism site is often referred to as “Ha Long Bay on land.” The serene environment is punctuated only by the sounds of nature. Visitors can admire the white flowers of the reeds at the foothills. The fresh air and mountain views transport visitors to a magical realm. The complex features 50 caves connecting 30 small valleys, stretching about 10 kilometers from North to South. It’s an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts eager to explore Ninh Binh’s stunning caves. Inside the caves, a forest of stalactites and stalagmites awaits, sparking the imagination and giving names to many caves: Ba Giot, Seo, Dia Linh, Nau Ruou, etc.
Hoa Lu Temples of the Dinh & Le Dynasties - Visit the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, home to the King Dinh and Le Temples from the 10th Century. These temples honor the Emperors and royal figures who ruled over 1000 years ago. Hoa Lu still preserves remnants of the ancient fortress built by the Dinh dynasty over a millennium ago. The Imperial palace lies 3 meters underground and is a fascinating site to visit. The tour continues with a 30-minute bike ride through a rural village, offering a glimpse into local life. Note that this biking activity is complimentary and intended to provide a peaceful experience of the rural landscape, not a professional biking tour. Those uninterested in biking can opt to walk around, take photos, or relax at a restaurant while others cycle.
12:30 Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring special local dishes.
Mua Caves - After lunch, cycle to Mua Cave. The ride offers authentic countryside views of Vietnam. The cave, meaning ‘Cave of Dance,’ may not be grand, but the panoramic views from the peak are breathtaking. A stone staircase beside the cave entrance zigzags through the karst (watch out for goat droppings) and leads to a simple altar to Quan Am (the Goddess of Mercy) after nearly 500 steps. From the top, the Ngo Dong River winding through Tam Coc is visible. The climb is paved but steep in parts, so bring water and allow an hour for the round trip. Mua Cave is 5km from Ninh Binh and a popular stop on Tam Coc tours.
Tam Coc - After exploring the cave, continue biking through fields and serene countryside to reach the Tam Coc area. Check into a hotel or bungalow for relaxation. (Optional: Foot massage service available at an additional cost)
18:30 Dine at a local restaurant. Enjoy free time exploring Tam Coc at night. Overnight stay in Tam Coc.
Bich Dong Pagoda - Cuc Phuong National Park - Hanoi
Cuc Phuong National Park - At 9:00, after breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to Cuc Phuong, Vietnam’s first and largest national park. The park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including 97 mammal species, notably endangered langurs; 300 bird species; 36 reptilian species; 17 amphibian species; 11 fish species; 2,000 vascular plant species, and thousands of insect species, most of which are non-biting. Several species in the park are listed in Vietnam’s Red Book of endangered species. Primates in the park include macaques, gibbons, Francois’ leaf monkeys, and slow lorises. Lunch will be served at a restaurant in the center of Cuc Phuong National Park.
Thousand Year Old Tree - This ancient tree stands around 45 meters tall, with a diameter four times that of the Dang ancient tree. It takes at least 20 adults with outstretched arms to fully encircle the trunk. Trek approximately 3 km to witness this natural wonder. Nearby, a small trail leads to Son Cung Cave, known for its stunning stalactites.
Endangered Primate Rescue Centre - After a jungle trek, visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Center (EPRC), established in 1993 as a project of the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Despite initial challenges, the center began with two Delacour’s langurs and Hatinh langurs rescued from illegal wildlife trade. Currently, the center houses about 160 individuals of 15 species and sub-species, including six species not found elsewhere in captivity. These include Delacour’s langur (Trachypithecus delacouri), Hatinh langur (Trachypithecus laotum hatinhensis), Black langur (Trachypithecus laotum ebenus), Lao langur (Trachypithecus laotum laotum), Cat Ba langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus poliocephalus), and Grey-shanked Douc langur (Pygathrix cinerea).
Động Người Xưa - The Cave of Prehistoric Man is a significant archaeological site within Cuc Phuong National Park. It takes about 300 meters to walk from the main road, followed by a climb of approximately fifty steps up stone stairs to reach the cave entrance.
Bich Dong Pagoda - This enchanting series of cave temples is located a few kilometers west of Ninh Hai village. The Lower Pagoda is at the base, with 100 steps leading to the Middle Pagoda, followed by a shorter but steep climb to the Upper Pagoda. Inside each cave temple, statues emerge from the haze of burning incense. Outside, the views of the countryside are breathtaking.
Hanoi Opera House - At 15:30, return to the car for the drive back to Hanoi. After a 2.5-hour journey, arrive back in Hanoi. Guests are dropped off at their hotel or the meeting point (Hanoi Opera House). The trip concludes around 18:00.
