Setting Off on the Ha Giang Loop

After leaving my finance job in Seoul to backpack through Southeast Asia, I found myself in Vietnam, eager to explore the famed Ha Giang Loop. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and cultural richness, this tour promised an adventure I couldn’t resist. I joined a small group of fellow travelers, all equally excited to embark on this three-day journey through Northern Vietnam.

Our adventure began with a comfortable bus ride from Hanoi to Ha Giang City. The six-hour drive was a perfect opportunity to bond with my fellow travelers, sharing stories and travel tips. The next morning, we set off on the Ha Giang Loop, a road trip that would take us through some of Vietnam’s most stunning landscapes. Our first stop was Quan Ba Heaven Gate, where we were greeted with panoramic views of the majestic rock plateau. The cool mountain air and the sight of the Doi Mountain were invigorating, setting the tone for the rest of our journey.

As we continued our journey, we visited the Lung Cam Cultural Village, a picturesque spot nestled in the Sung La Valley. Here, we explored a century-old traditional Hmong house, learning about the rich cultural heritage of the region. The highlight of the day was the visit to the Vuong Family’s Palace, a magnificent structure that offered a glimpse into the history of the Hmong people.

The Thrill of the Ma Pi Leng Pass

The final day of our tour was perhaps the most exhilarating. We traversed the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, a road carved into the side of the mountain, offering breathtaking views of the Nho Que River below. The thrill of the winding roads and the sheer beauty of the landscape made this a truly unforgettable experience.

We took a boat ride on the Nho Que River, marveling at the towering cliffs of the Tu San Canyon. The serenity of the river contrasted beautifully with the ruggedness of the surrounding landscape. As we made our way back to Ha Giang City, we stopped at the Lung Tam weaving village, where we witnessed the intricate art of brocade weaving by the Hmong people.
