Hanoi - The tour guide will pick up guests by car at their hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter between 7:30 and 8:00 AM, then proceed north to Lang Son province.
Lang Son Province - The journey begins with a drive towards the Chinese border, lasting about 3 hours, before pausing at Chi Lang Pass. Visitors will have approximately an hour to explore the area around the Quy Mon Quan Gate, known as “The Gate of Monsters,” named for the numerous invading forces that historically passed through the pass, only to be repelled by resilient Vietnamese defenders.
After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang, the trip continues into the pass, with stops at Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe – a significant historical site where The Battle of Dong Khe occurred during the First Indochina War. This was the inaugural battle of the Indochina Wars, with fighting taking place in September and October 1950, culminating in a decisive victory for the Viet Minh.
Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Ba Be National Park
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - After breakfast at the homestay, the journey proceeds to Trung Khanh, located right on the border with China. Here, there is an opportunity to meet and interact with the local Nung people residing in the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village renowned for its traditional blacksmithing. The farming tools crafted here are essential to the lifestyle, evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields.
Amidst these stunning landscapes lies the awe-inspiring Ban Gioc Waterfall, spanning over 300 meters and shared between Vietnam and China. Visitors will have time to soak in the incredible atmosphere surrounding the falls, offering a perfect chance for some fantastic photography.
Nguom Ngao Cave - After visiting the falls, the next stop is Nguom Ngao Cave, a different yet equally impressive natural wonder. The cave extends for 2,144 meters underground and is filled with remarkable stalactites and stalagmites.
Ba Be National Park - The journey then returns to Cao Bang town and proceeds down the “snake pass” to Ba Be Lake, where guests will stay overnight in a homestay built in traditional Tay style, owned and operated by a local Tay family. Here, guests can relax and unwind from the day and enjoy a delicious and authentic home-cooked meal.
Ba Be Lake - Hanoi
Ba Be National Park - After breakfast, guests will board a boat to cross the lake to the north shore. From there, a hike begins in the rainforest of the central area of Ba Be National Park. Along the lake’s shores, visitors will reach a prehistoric cave dating back 500 million years, hidden in an ancient forest composed of rare and hardwood trees, as strong as steel. The hike continues to the An Ma temple (a sacred temple of the Tay people venerating the snake god and military general of the Mac dynasty). Guests can choose how to spend their time on the boat: relax and admire the landscape or take a dip in the fresh waters of the lake. Either way, enjoy the scenery with its beautiful karst formations lined with jungle. Note: visitors who do not wish to participate in the walk can opt to stay on the boat to visit Widow Island or do some shopping.
Return to Ba Be Jungle Houses restaurant for lunch before concluding the tour. Guests will be transported approximately 230 km back to Hanoi.
Hanoi - On the way back to Hanoi, there is a stop at a tea plantation nestled among rolling hills. Upon arrival in Hanoi, it’s time to say goodbye, leaving with lifelong memories and connections. Arrival in Hanoi is expected around 18:00 – 19:00, depending on traffic and weather conditions.
