Embrace the Wilderness: A Mother’s Day Adventure in Tasmania

Mother’s Day weekend in Hobart offers a unique opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Tasmania while celebrating the special women in our lives. With clear skies and comfortable temperatures, it’s the perfect time to embark on the Southwest Wilderness Experience, a journey that promises to be as memorable as it is eco-friendly.

On both May 10th and 11th, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, you can join the friendly Par Avion staff for an unforgettable adventure. The day begins with a scenic flight over Hobart’s eastern suburbs, offering stunning aerial views of the Derwent River and the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. As you leave civilization behind, you’ll enter the vast southwest wilderness, following the South Coast Track to Melaleuca.

Upon arrival, a picturesque cruise awaits you at Bathurst Harbour, a secluded waterway thrice the size of Sydney Harbour. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore the remote Celery Top Islands and take walks in the untouched wilderness. A delicious lunch featuring Tasmanian produce and wine is served in a remote location, allowing you to savor the flavors of the region while surrounded by nature’s beauty.

“Do yourself a favour! - This is the best trip I’ve ever done! The service received from Paige in the office to Theo (pilot, skipper, tour guide) was exceptional. The flight was amazing, the views outstanding. The boat trip around Bathurst Harbour was fantastic. Plenty of time to stretch your legs and walk around. Beautiful lunch with wine in a gorgeous setting. Flying back through the mountains for a different perspective.” (Reviewed on 2025-04-27)

Strolling Through History: Discovering Hobart’s Colonial Past

For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the Salamanca History Walk offers a fascinating exploration of Hobart’s colonial history. Available on May 10th and 11th, with tours starting at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, this walking tour is a delightful way to immerse yourself in the city’s rich heritage.

Led by knowledgeable guides, you’ll wander through Battery Point, uncovering the narratives of convict men and women who once roamed these streets. The tour seamlessly blends historical insights with contemporary attractions, providing tailored suggestions to enhance your experience.

As you admire the architectural gems nestled within the charming Battery Point neighborhood, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for Hobart’s timeless allure. The tour is physically undemanding, making it accessible to all ages, and offers a unique perspective on the city’s past and present.

“A Must in order to truly understand Salamanca - Wonderful tour and history of Salamanca and surrounding area. Our guide had many anecdotal stories as well as historical ones concerning our sites. He was thoroughly enjoyable and the tour seemed to fly by.” (Reviewed on 2025-03-25)
