- Organ Pipes Track - We drive up through the tree line to the chalet, a stone hut 1000m above sea level, and begin walking the gently graded Organ Pipes Track. Here, we encounter vibrant snow gums, towering dolerite cliffs, and boulder fields, along with stunning views of Hobart and its surroundings.
Additionally, David, your guide, will bring the area to life with his university-level knowledge of botany and geology, along with his family connections to the pioneer hikers and their firsthand stories.
- Pinnacle Road - We then ascend through increasingly impressive views of Hobart to the summit of Mt Wellington. We observe colorful snow gums, subalpine vegetation, and wildflowers.
- Mount Wellington - At this elevation, the views become even more spectacular, now including some of the mountains of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. We take a short walk to the trig point, reaching the highest point and pausing to absorb the breathtaking vista. David will recall his first journey from the city to this summit at 18 years old, which took him 5 hours.
• We then have free time to explore and photograph from the Hobart and South West Wilderness viewing platforms. Up close, we observe unique Tasmanian alpine vegetation and rock pillars. At the summit, you will be filled with awe, immersed in an ocean of natural beauty with no limits in sight.
