During the Vietnam War, the Củ Chi tunnels were the site of numerous military operations and served as the Viet Cong’s headquarters for the Tết Offensive in 1968. The tunnels provided Viet Cong soldiers with hiding places during battles and functioned as communication and supply routes, hospitals, storage for food and weapons, and living quarters for many North Vietnamese fighters. These tunnel systems were crucial to the Viet Cong’s resistance against American and ARVN forces, effectively countering the increasing American military presence.
