Join us for an excursion to explore “Gagauzia,” a fascinating region in southern Moldova. This lesser-known area is home to the Gagauz people, a Turkish-speaking community that has been significantly influenced by Russian culture and shares historical ties with the Turks of Anatolia. The Gagauz speak a Turkish dialect as well as Russian, and they practice Orthodox Christianity, distinguishing them from Muslim communities. Historically, the Turkish-speaking Christians from Bulgaria, known as the “Gök-oğuz” or Gagauz, settled in this region in 1812, alongside Moldovans, following the annexation of Bessarabia by the Russian Empire.
