Charming and knowledgeable guide.
Martha was very knowledgeable about the history, architecture & geography of Charleston. I highly recommend the tour.
Second visit with Anne and she was wonderful and informative as expected. This is a great tour.
Our guide Anne was great! It was an informative and entertaining tour. I learned a lot.
Very knowledgeable guide (a native) paced the group at our pace, not hers. I'm pretty sure this made for some minor adjustments in the itinerary but it all worked beautifully. Lemonade at the end was a nice touch
Charming insiders history and perfect introduction to Charleston. Warm, humorous and very informative. Personal anecdotes mixed with historical info made for a fun couple hours walking and gawking.
We loved the tour! We learned so much about Charleston and had a great experience! Thank you for sharing your passion for Charleston with us!
Very much appreciated this walking tour and the excitement Anne brings to her work and her story telling. Would do it again next time I visit Charleston to learn even more.
Martha was super knowledgeable about all things Charleston - history - centuries old to recent, architecture, social issues, and gave fun tourist advice. Plus she covers a lot of ground in 2 hours - wear your walking shoes!! We enjoyed this with our 2 teens. Highly recommend.
The tour was very fun and full of fun and interesting facts!
Very interesting and informative tour. Anne was very knowledgeable in all things Charleston - the history (from the 1700's until today), the people, the events that have shaped the town and its inhabitants! Would definitely recommend.
Very informative, varied itinerary
Our guide was very knowledgeable! Because of her family's rich history in Charleston she was able to provide a personal element to what she was telling us. I would highly recommend this tour!
The tour was very informative. Ann was very knowledgeable regarding the history of Charleston. It was a tour off the beaten path so I learned things about the old walled city I never knew. Ann also recommended other activities to visit to enhance the historical perspective even further; the Slave Market Museum, Sweet grass basket women, St Philips church cemetery. It was a a fun and fact-filled 2 hours. I would highly recommend the tour to others.
Excellent and informative tour! Ann took us places we would never have found on our own. Her unique perspective as a many-generation Charleston native was very interesting. Highly recommend.
Very friendly, very professional, small group
The tour was fantastic! I highly recommend it to anyone interesting in learning about the history of Charleston while you stroll around one of the most beautiful cities in America.
Anne was extremely knowledgeable as well as entertaining. She took us to areas only a lifetime resident would understand the value of learning about.
Wasn't perfect but it accomplished the task of teaching us more about Charleston in less than 2.5 hours. The mix of personal stories with the city's history was very well done. My recommended improvement would be to not spend 35 minutes at the beginning talking. I wondered if we were ever going to get going and learn about the history because most of the time was spent talking about his radical daughter's hair color or soccer team, etc. maybe just start a bit early with the actual walking.
Tour guide was very personable & informative
So much history in just a few blocks. Tons of knowledge and great information on the history of Charleston, its people and its architecture. Beats any carriage ride!
Matha was a great guide and knew of history well and made it entertaining. She was gracious enough to entertain all of the questions from the group. The tour covers a lot of information of the Charleston's history and helps to understand what you see as you walk around it.
Anne, we LOVED meeting you and experiencing our first ever walking tour. We learned so much and enjoyed your enthusiasm for Charleston's rich history. We have been talking about this tour all week. FUN and interesting.
Martha was an outstanding guide. Personable and extremely.
The enthusiasm and knowledge of the guide (Anne). The paste of the walk. The significance of the multiple stops in relation to the history (and stories) of the town and its people. The way Anne personalized the tour by integrating family and childhood's comments and memories. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anybody interested in learning about this charming town and its secrets in a casual and friendly, though professional, way.
Martha was friendly and open to any and all questions. She was very knowledgable about Charleston and we loved the lemonade in the courtyard at the end!
My family and I spent our spring break in Charleston, SC. As I put together our itinerary, I wanted to start off with a walking tour. After reading reviews from several walking tour websites, I decided to book our tour with Charlestons History Tour. Having read all of the wonderfull reviews I knew this was the perfect tour. We were lucky to have Martha Middleton. Her wealth of knowledge and passion for the city was very obvious. We highly recommend the Middleton sisters for your walking history lesson of Charleston. Martha was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and informative. We learned so much from her that we never would have known otherwise, and she changed our whole perspective on the city for the better because of it!
Martha was very knowledgeable...loved that her history in Charleston runs so deep. You really do feel you're learning from an expert. She had fantastic anecdotes and easily answered all questions. I highly recommend this tour!
My kids and I did this tour a couple days ago. Not only was it a lovely and personal tour by a knowledgable tour guide, but we left with stories of Charleston that we will carry with us forever. If we could give more than 5 stars, we would. I have already given out the website and phone number to friends who are visting this coming weekend because I was impressed!!!
We had the tour with Anne. Anne was I believe a thirteenth generation resident of Charleston and very enthusiastic about the history of Charleston going back as far as the American Revolution and the Civil war. She was very knowledgeable about a lot of the events that happened and the sentiment of the peoples through that time in history. And, you could see that there was a lot more to her than being your typical tour operator. She really led the tour through a step back into time and was very compelling with her story telling which really was the life that her family went through over the years. Very well done!
My husband and I enjoyed our Charleston History tour very much on a crisp March afternoon. Our guide was very knowledgable and friendly. We learned a great deal about the history of the city in a fun walking tour! Thank you!
Anne was extremely knowledgeable about the various stops. Enjoyed that her approach was genuine and not rehearsed. Definitely saw things I wouldn't have seen on a carriage tour. Would love to go back and see a different area of the peninsula with her as my guide!
Excellent native tour guide with incredible historical information
Excellent tour guide!
