- Geragama Estate Road - Tea Plantations & Factories of Sri Lanka
Tea production is a major source of foreign exchange for Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), contributing 2% to the GDP and generating over US $1.5 billion in 2013. It provides employment for over 1 million people, with 215,338 directly employed on tea plantations and estates in 1995. Officially established in 1821, six years after the British occupied the Kingdom of Kandian, its history traces back to 1371 when King Wikramabahu III ascended the throne and maintained the courtyard near the Mahaweli River. Located less than four miles from Kandy on the Colombo Road, it occupies a loop of the Mahaweli River.
- Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Dalada Maligawa / Temple Of the Tooth Relic / Royal Palace;
The Dalada Maligawa, also known as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, the last capital of the Sinhalese kings, and was the Royal Palace. It is one of the most revered sites for Buddhists worldwide. Built in the 16th century, the temple houses the Buddha’s Tooth Relic (specifically the left canine tooth), brought to Sri Lanka by siblings from India’s Kalinga province in the 4th century AD.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists. The current temple was primarily constructed under Kandyan Kings from 1687 to 1707 and 1747-82. It features an impressive structure surrounded by a deep moat. One of its most notable features, Pattirippuwa, or the Octagon, was added by King Sri Wickrem Rajasingha in the early 19th century. He also created Kandy Lake.
Daily relic worship rituals are held in the temple, accompanied by flute and drum music.
“Dalada Maligawa” is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Y.M.B.A - The Cultural Show / Kandy Dance
Held in Kandy town, this cultural show showcases various forms of Kandyan dancing, originally native to the area but now widespread across the island. Originating from a dance performed by Indian shamans who visited the island, Kandyan dancing is integral to Sri Lankan culture and is a highlight during perahera processions. The show features dances depicting the graceful movements of birds and animals, tracing back to the ancient ritual known as the Kohomba Kapkariya, along with energetic acrobatic performances where men execute leaping pirouettes and stunts like plate-spinning and the dramatic ‘fire walk’ that concludes the show.
