A Jungle Adventure Begins

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can bring families closer together. So when I heard about Monkeyland in Punta Cana, I knew it was a must-visit. The idea of exploring a natural habitat dedicated to monkeys, along with a coffee and cacao plantation, sounded like the perfect blend of education and fun.

Our adventure began with a warm welcome from our guide, Angel, and our driver, Maximo. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and they set the tone for what would be an unforgettable day. We started by delving into the world of cacao, coffee, and coconut oil production. Walking through the lush jungle, we learned about the organic methods used by local farmers. The highlight for me was tasting the inside of a cacao fruit, which surprisingly tasted like mango! My kids were thrilled to sample the fresh coffee with raw sugar and hot chocolate, and even my husband, who isn’t a coffee drinker, found it delightful.

The first part of the tour was a hit with everyone, even my mother-in-law, who was initially skeptical. The hands-on experience and the chance to chat with local farmers made it a memorable learning opportunity for the whole family.

Monkey Mischief and Memories

After our plantation tour, it was time to meet the stars of the show – the monkeys! A short walk brought us to Monkeyland, where we spent an hour in the company of these playful creatures. The monkeys were as curious about us as we were about them, jumping onto our heads, shoulders, and arms. Their antics had us all laughing, and it was a joy to see my kids interacting with them.

A word of advice for fellow travelers: avoid wearing shiny accessories. The monkeys are attracted to anything that glimmers, and I found myself covering a shiny ball on my top to keep them from getting too curious. My daughter had to remove her earrings for the same reason. But these minor adjustments were well worth it for the chance to be so close to these adorable animals.

We captured countless photos and videos, and the memories we made will be cherished for years to come. The option to purchase professional photos at the end was a nice touch, ensuring we had plenty of keepsakes from our day.
