• Royal Highland Hotel - Participants will have the opportunity to create their own Prickly Thistle tartan using one of our table looms, gaining insight into the art of tartan weaving. Each loom is prepped with a warp from our design archives, ready for you to start as soon as you arrive. Discover past weaving workshop highlights here.

By the conclusion of this workshop, attendees will take home a piece of tartan along with a certificate of authenticity, officially earning the title of rebel weaver!

Workshops are held every Wednesday from April through October.

This weaving workshop offers more than just an activity – it provides a truly immersive, slow-living experience unique to the area.

Guided by a skilled crafter/weaver from Prickly Thistle Mill, the workshop combines traditional weaving methods with mindful creativity, offering participants the unique opportunity to disconnect, acquire a new skill, and craft something meaningful with their own hands.

Located in a serene, welcoming environment, this is an intimate, hands-on session rather than a large, commercial class, with expert guidance personalized for each participant, whether they are complete beginners or quietly creative.

Participants will leave not only with a beautiful woven piece but also with a deeper appreciation for craftsmanship, heritage, and the simple joy of slowing down – a truly special experience that is hard to find locally.
