Loch Ness Region - Starting from the accommodation in Inverness, the journey will head towards Loch Ness, offering numerous photo opportunities at some of the most picturesque viewpoints the loch provides. The tour will then proceed to the renowned Urquhart Castle and its visitor center for a photo session only. This castle is a truly romantic ruin, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the loch, surrounded by waters over 600 feet deep, where the legendary Loch Ness Monster is said to reside. After exploring its fascinating history, the tour will continue towards Invermoriston.
20 min drive -
Invermoriston Falls - Invermoriston Falls, sometimes referred to as River Moriston Falls, flow directly beneath the bridges. Rather than a single waterfall, it is a series of rapids that rush and flow along the rocky river. The Invermoriston Bridge, opened in 1813 after eight years of construction, was built by the famous Scottish engineer Thomas Telford as part of road developments along the shores of Loch Ness, improving the military road between Inverness and Fort Augustus. The design features two stone arches and utilizes a large rocky outcrop in the river for strength. Although the bridge is now damaged and out of use, a new single-span bridge replaced it in 1933. Visitors can still walk over the old bridge for excellent views both upstream and downstream.
Then on to Fort Augustus
20 min drive -
Fort Augustus - In Fort Augustus, visitors can explore the Caledonian Canal locks or visit local attractions like the Clansman Centre. Other popular activities include walking the Great Glen Way, visiting viewpoints such as Loch Ness View Point, and seeing the Fort Augustus War Memorial. Then the tour continues to the Commando Monument.
30 min drive -
Commando Monument - The Commando Memorial, near Spean Bridge, honors WWII Commandos with a bronze sculpture of three commandos and a plaque. Standing 17 feet tall, it is a Category A listed monument in Lochaber, Scotland, dedicated to the original British Commando Forces raised during World War II. Located about a mile from Spean Bridge, it overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle.
Then on to Glenfinnan Bridge
35 min drive -
Glenfinnan Viaduct - Even if unfamiliar from the Harry Potter movies, this stunning bridge in a breathtaking location is technically a “viaduct,” meaning a bridge with many smaller spans. A quick Google search for “Harry Potter bridge” will direct you to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, just north of the town of the same name, about half an hour west of Fort William. Conveniently for movie or bridge enthusiasts, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is easily accessible, just a short walk from a car park. This railway viaduct on the West Highland Line at Glenfinnan, in the Lochaber district of north-western Scotland, was built from 1897 to 1901. It is located at the top of Loch Shiel in the West Scottish Highlands, overlooking the Glenfinnan Monument and the waters of Loch Shiel.
Then on to Fort William
20 min drive - Fort William - Situated in the heart of Lochaber in Scotland’s West Highlands, Fort William is renowned as the Outdoor Capital of the UK. It serves as a popular base for short breaks or extended holidays and is the perfect starting point for exploring beaches, film locations, castles, distilleries, and the expansive Highland landscapes. Ben Nevis, with its wild heart, adventurous spirit, and dramatic flair, towers above glistening lochans and deep glacial valleys. In Scotland, no peak is higher.
