Clava Cairns is a remarkably preserved Bronze Age cemetery complex featuring passage graves, ring cairns, kerb cairns, and standing stones, all set in a stunning landscape.
Known as the Prehistoric Burial Cairns of Bulnuaran of Clava, this group of three Bronze Age cairns is situated near Inverness. As a site of immense historical importance, Clava Cairns offers an outstanding glimpse into the ancient history of Highland Scotland, dating back approximately 4,000 years.
- Culloden Battlefield - The next destination is the profoundly moving site of the final Jacobite Rising – the last and most intense pitched battle fought on British soil between the Jacobite army and Government forces. Visitors can explore the interactive visitor center, view intriguing artifacts from both sides of the conflict, and experience the battle through an immersive surround cinema.
On April 16, 1746, the final Jacobite Rising reached a violent climax. Jacobite supporters, aiming to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British thrones, clashed with the Duke of Cumberland’s government troops.
- Loch Ness - The journey continues along the shore of Loch Ness towards Drumnadrochit from Inverness, with a stop for a photo opportunity. Perhaps Nessie will make an appearance too :)
- Great Glen Distillery - Great Glen is both Scotland’s newest and proudly its smallest craft distillery. Embracing the elements of a wild place, this smooth, earthy gin is their tribute to nature… so let’s pause for a wee taste.
PLEASE NOTE - The Distillery is closed from December 1st until April 2024. However, gin tastings are still available in the shop opposite the distillery.
- Urquhart Castle - This magnificent castle is best viewed and photographed from a distance. With its wild natural beauty and 1,000 years of history, Urquhart Castle offers a taste of the Highlands at their most dramatic.
