Very enjoyable and professional, lovely food - We were with eight people(a nice small group). The setting on an island near Hoi An in the house of Thõm’s (our teacher cook)mother is perfect. A lovely spot with very nice traditional cooking equipment. We made four dishes that were really delicious. Vegetarian was no problem. We did spring rolls with self made rice paper, papaya salad, an eggplant dish, grilled pork and a fresh tuna dish. The boat trip to the island took about 40 minutes and was also very enjoyable. All in all perfect cooking class.

Great cooking class in Hoi Ann - We had a day with My Grandmas Cooking class in Hoi Ann. We booked it direct through their website, it was highly recommended in the Rough Guide to Vietnam and we thoroughly enjoyed the day. Tom, our guide and teacher for the day spoke excellent English, she was very engaging and worked hard to make sure everyone enjoyed the day. She explained that the island that the cooking class was held on, a 40 minute boat ride from Hoi Ann, was where she was bought up by her grandmother until the age of 18. Her grandmother used to take the classes but she retired a few years ago, she is now 100 years old! Tom has taken over the cooking, using her Grandmother's traditional recipes. The day started in the food market in Hoi Ann, where the different types of fruit, spices , meat, fish, noodles were explained and in some cases tasted. We cooked 4 different dishes, a fresh rice paper, a rice pancake, papaya salad and pork skewers and then we ate them at a communal table or at our work stations. We then returned to Hoi Ann by boat or some people cycled. A great day and well worth the money

Authentic and delicious Vietnamese cuisine - Grandma’s cooking is the real deal. A boat took us to an island home where our tour guide Thom said she grew up. She demonstrated the whole rice harvesting process using ancestral tools. We then made rice pancakes over an open flame. She instructed us on how to make papaya salad, rice pancakes, spring rolls and tuna in a clay pot. It was all very organized and we really learned a lot while enjoying Thom and fellow travelers. The kitchen was clean and we were served on beautiful blue and white Vietnamese pottery. Expect to spend many hours!

Excellent day out! - This experience was the best we did in Vietnam. Thom was knowledgeable and friendly, we visited her Grandmas island and saw a traditional village. The cooking space was clean and a lovely space. I have made the recipes again since coming home - it’s a lovely memory and we use the knowledge a lot at home. Thank you Thom and family 🙏🏻

Don’t miss out - Truly an incredible experience not to be missed while you are visiting Hoi An or Danang. Thom, our tour guide, was a gracious host and great teacher. We learned a lot about Vietnam and got to see a slice of life in the countryside away from the city and tourists. Not to mention the food was delicious! This was the best activity we did while visiting.
