Excellent tour guide - I highly recommend John as a tour guide. His communication and organisation were excellent. He accommodated our family’s needs and shared an awesome video of our experience that we will treasure.

Amazing experience in Hoi An - John took me to lovely local street food places of typical Vietnamese cuisine . Throughly enjoyed his company as he is originally from Hoi an. He took me around Hoi An. Helped me to float a lantern on the river. Very professional, knowledgeable and reliable. I would definitely recommend him as an excellent tour guide if you are in Hoian.

Great food tour, would recommend! - We recently joined John on a food tour in Hoi An with our 2 children (18 and 12 years of age) and had a brilliant evening. The tour took us to places that we would never have found or tried ourselves, full of locals with great atmosphere. The food was delicious and John was a great source of information and lovely and engaging company. Would highly recommend John for anyone wanting to experience real Hoi An cuisine!

Excellent guide and excellent food - Our hotel booked our tour with John. He arrived on time, with a big smile and great energy. His warm demeanour put us at ease and, along with his expert understanding of Hoi An (he is a born and bred local), we were guided through three hours of delicious food whilst exploring Hoi An on foot at a gentle pace. John took us to local eateries that create the dishes that Hoi An is known for. We talked with the vendors as well as trying the food; as they all know John we felt like locals going about everyday life rather than tourists. John’s understanding of each dish brought it to life. At each eatery we enjoyed learning about the dish in front of us, about Hoi An, and John also helped us with the Vietnamese phrases we had been trying to use (and let us know the all important differences that tones make!). This tour truly brought Hoi An to life for us and introduced us to understanding this beautiful town on a deeper level. John is an authentic and genuine guide that cared about what we wanted to get from the tour and made sure we had the best time. I am so grateful we did this tour with John; I highly recommend him for his warm nature, his enthusiasm and knowledge, and his care for his guests.

Amazing Tour, highly recommended - We did the local food tour and boat lantern release. John was amazing. He was very knowledgeable of Hoi An and the local food. He made the tour carefree and enjoyable travelling from one restaurant to another. John’s English is great, along with his charismatic personality. It was great to try some local food places that we probably would not have gone to ourselves. Would highly recommend John for any tours he offers.

Possibly our most enjoyable food tour ever! - We’d done quite a few food tours across Asia over the last few years and unfortunately the Vietnamese ones and their guides had not been good experiences, despite them showing good scores on Tripadvisor. Based on this, for our 2025 holiday in Hoi An, we searched more carefully for a food tour, looking closely at customer feedback. The result was that we chose John Lee’s “Hoi An Street Food Tour - Eat like a local - Private Tour.” We actually booked John Lee many months before we arrived in Vietnam – but from the beginning he acknowledged our booking on Viator and was available to answer queries and requests, unlike some businesses which only contact you the afternoon before your tour… Additionally, during booking of this tour we hadn’t realized that it would be riding as passengers on the back of scooters, but when the time came it was really a lot of fun traveling this way and ideal for nipping down country lanes and the side-roads of Hoi An (we definitely felt like locals on the scooters!). Furthermore, throughout the tour, John and his staff were focused on our safety. At the start of our tour, before we visited the restaurants and eateries, he took us down some small and pretty country lanes, alongside riverbanks, to a tiny, old, rural noodle factory which produced a local delicacy using traditional methods, which was fascinating. Plus, it was poignant to think that this workshop will no longer be in existence in a couple of years’ time when the owners retire as their children prefer to pursue more modern jobs. Throughout the tour John was smiling, charming, enthusiastic and generous with his time and genuinely wanted us to have the best experience and for our food tour to be an adventure (which it was!). Each food stop had it’s own special character and signature dish and at the end after getting photos of the colorful lanterns and launching a couple we certainly felt well-fed! In conclusion, we highly recommend John Lee and he is so much better than many other guides. When we next return to Vietnam we will definitely be in touch with him and suspect we will be arranging some tailor-made tours using two-wheels transport!
