“Visit and learn more about Chim Yen, small birds native to Southeast Asia that inhabit caves, and explore Bird’s Nest Buildings. The local community meticulously studies and constructs some of these buildings. They are dark like caves and have a bird-like scent. Thousands of birds reside in these structures, known as Bird’s Nest Buildings. Some buildings are designed to mimic the natural caves where birds live. Detailed studies, considering wind patterns and bird migration routes, are conducted to determine the optimal placement of these buildings. Occasionally, recorded bird songs are played to attract new birds.
Discover edible bird’s nests, also known as swallow nests, which are created from the solidified saliva of edible-nest swiftlets. Most nests are constructed during the breeding season by the male swiftlet over approximately 35 days. They resemble a shallow cup attached to the cave wall. The nests consist of interwoven strands of salivary cement and are rich in calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium. Swallow nests have been a delicacy for over 400 years.”
