Ride across the Svínahraun lava field, which was formed around the year 1000 AD, navigating gravel paths through rugged, moss-covered lava. The journey continues into an active geothermal area where steam vents are visible.
You’ll pass by the Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, where subterranean heat is harnessed to generate electricity and hot water. Your guide will provide insights into the utilization of geothermal energy in Iceland.
The tour includes a visit to the Hveradalir geothermal area, where you can sample traditional Icelandic rúgbrauð (rye bread) baked in a geothermal oven, without the use of electricity. You’ll also have the opportunity to observe geothermal activity up close. Please stay on the designated paths.
Depending on your chosen option, the tour will either remain in the Hengill area (1-hour option) or venture further into the landscape (2-hour option), including the Jósepsdalur valley and views of the Vífilsfell volcano.
