Its origins likely date back to the Second Intermediate Period, but the actual temple dates to Ptolemaic times. Construction began during the reign of Ptolemy III (around 237 BC) and was completed during the reign of Ptolemy IV. Additional contributions were made by other Ptolemaic Kings and the Roman Emperor Augustus. The temple’s construction, along with its additions, inscriptions, and reliefs, took about 180 years.

Valley of the Kings - The tombs of the New Kingdom Pharaohs are located in The Valley of the Kings, an extraordinary site where 62 Pharaohs are interred. This was a secretive location, guarded by sentries at the entrance and atop the hills to deter tomb robbers.
