Colossi of Memnon - The Colossi of Memnon are two monumental statues representing Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty. Located west of Luxor, they face east toward the Nile River. The statues depict the seated king on a throne adorned with imagery of his mother, wife, the god Hapy, and other symbolic engravings. Each statue stands 60 feet high and weighs 720 tons, carved from single sandstone blocks.
Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - The Temple of Hatshepsut is a memorial temple honoring Queen Hatshepsut and a remarkable architectural achievement. Designed by Senenmut, it resembles classical Greek architecture from 1,000 years later. Located on the Nile’s west bank, opposite Luxor, it is part of the Theban Necropolis and marks the entrance to the Valley of the Kings. The main building, Djeser Djeseru, is known as the “holy of holies.”
Temple of Karnak - Karnak Temple is a significant worship site dedicated to the God Amon, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. The Karnak Temple Complex, near Luxor, includes a vast array of temples, pylons, chapels, and other structures. Construction began during Senusret I’s reign in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom, with most existing buildings dating from the New Kingdom. Part of the monumental city of Thebes, Karnak was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The complex is named after the nearby village of El-Karnak, 2.5 kilometers north of Luxor.
